Genre & Sub-Genre task

What is a Genre?
Hunger Games -Action and Adventure
A Genre is a style or category in films which is portrayed in the storyline. For example in 'Hunger Games' the genre is portrayed through the story line. Because there is a lot of action and adventure within the film, the Genre is labelled as 'Action & Adventure'. 

Why are Genres useful?
One of the many ways genres are used is due to the fact that it is much more easier to find films of an individuals choice. It creates form and also its more easier to market. Without genres there confusion and stress can be caused due to the fact that it will be harder to find films with your interest. Therefore with the idea of genres, organisation and form can be used to sort different films. Another reason why genres are important is that it is much easier to promote. 



What is a Sub-Genre?
A Sub-Genre is two different genres intertwined and placed in one film. There are many examples of Sub-Genres such as:
  • Teen- Horror
  • Teen- Comedy
  • Teen- Action and Adventure 
  • Teen- Fantasy

These different genres consist of both different genres as sub-genres are two genres divided in a film.  An example of a film with a Sub-Genre is 'WEIRD SCIENCE' which is a Teen- Comedy film. 

Why are Sub-Genres useful?
Sub-Genre mainly serve the same purpose as genres.
  • Much more easier to find films for preference 
  • Avoids confusion and stress
  • Easier to promote and market
What is a Hybrid Genre?
A hybrid genre is a film which consists of three or more sub genres which blends the themes and elements from the different genres. There are many movies that fall under this category. one of the many movies which do fall under this category is 'Attack the block' which consists of three genres such as Sci-Fi, Action, and Comedy.
