Photos taken whilst filming.
This is a photo of where we were filming which was outside of Emmanuels house. We decided to use his house to convey the bold fancy rich jock as Emaanuels house was best suited for this. |
This is another photo of filming whilst in Emmanuels house filming the nerds scene. |
26.02.2014
In Wednesdays lesson we concentrated on posting as many blogs as we could and we also continued to edit our teen film opening.we have realized that some of our shots are too long so we need to cut a lot of them down in order not to go over the 2minute:30s duration. |
MOOD BOARD
MOOD BOARD
This is a brief mood board i made of the ideas we had that inspired us for our teen movie opening. As i do no longer have word anymore i had to make it on word pad which put me at a disadvantage and not every picture can be put up as theres no space and pictures can not be overlapped on here. Also i am unable to add text boxes and arrows in to illustrate the photos.:(
Stereotypical teen film characters.
As i have already explained the importance for high detail in costuming to clearly represent the difference between the characters. As i have watched many teen film movies over the past such as Not another teen movie,Mean girls and American pie. These films all conveyed great use of mis en scene such and props costumes and body language.all three features were presented in all three films allowing us to identify as the audience which types of characters that we are watching. This is important to make the audience fully aware of this otherwise the film could be misconceived of the humor that is being demonstrated. THE CRIMINAL
A couple of photos whilst filming.
Here above are just a couple of photos that were taken whilst we were both indoors and outdoors filming.we thought that it would be good to capture photos in between filming and taking shots as memories of our journey whilst filming. These pictures illustrate the fun we had whilst filming. |

Lunapic: How to!
Firstly, I had to search in google for 'white' as I wanted just a blank canvas. As Lunapic is meant for editting pictures of people, things etc and not just for text, they do not have a blank page option. So this is the only way I could do it.
I then had to browse through my laptop for the image. It was easy to find. I then had to upload that to Lunapic. After I uploaded it, I had the option to resize it, crop it, scale it etc.
Because I wanted to add text, I pressed 'Add Text'. From here, it got slightly tricky. It now took you to customise how big you wanted your text and the font and colour etc of your text.
There were many different options for the text colour and fontwise.
You then selected the text and colours you wanted and being to apply to text. With lunapic, you can only insert one sentence at a time, which can be frustrating. Especially if you are writing paragraphs (this is not the correct media to be writing paragraphs on), it will take so long because you have to write the text, place the text on the page and then apply the text and repeat.
You type your text into the textbar. You can change the options of the text. Underneath all the text options is the picture that is being editted. For example purposes, I just used the screenshot I took earlier.
You then can see the preview of how the text will look on the page.
You can change where the text is placed, the font, the colour etc. until you are happy with it.
When you are happy with it, and only when you are happy with it, press 'apply text'. I say only when you are happy with it because the undo process is so long, it will basically undo everything that you have done and take you back to the blank page, so press apply text only when you are sure. Because it's long to go back.
After that the text has permanently been placed on your picture, of course, unless you undo. The text becomes a lot smoother when apply text has been pressed.
You are now able to insert and edit your next line of text, and repeat the process.
In case things are still unclear, below is a tutorial of how to use it:
Hope this helped.
Interview with Adult: Teen Film Opening Sequence
I did a range of interviews in response to our Teen Film Opening Sequence. This is to see what everyone thinks about it and most importantly, too see if everyone, especially enjoys it. I have already published the two interviews of teens I did, which are on the two previous blogs. The feedback from the interviews are really helpful, which is why I decided to do them.
On Wednesday 26th of February in workshop
On Wednesday the 26th of February in workshop, I focused on the sequence where three of the characters in T.E.A.M Tommy (Jock), Edward (Nerd) and Ari (Princess) characters are getting ready to leave for summer camp. The beneficial thing about the editing was that we had a range of footage to include in our project therefore it was easier for us to mix and match different shots.
I ended up doing this successfully including editing techniques such as match cuts, transition shots such as cuts, fades, and dissolves.
For the nerd I used very fast match cuts for his opening scene. This demonstrates how keen and also happy he is to experience the first day of summer camp come to life.
I also conveyed a lot of close-ups and extreme close- ups in his opening scene so that the audience can see his facial expressions as to how cheerful he is because he has been waiting for this day for a long while.
For the Jock I used the use of match cuts as well at a good pace. This was because he woke up late. Therefore I used match cuts to connect his movement with different angles to make it seem as one camera.
I also included a mid-angle in the Jock's scene so that the audience can grab a insight of his stereotype due to the fact that he is with a girl. I included the because it represents the Jocks:

- Coolness
- Popularity
- Good looks/ Handsomeness
This automatically gives the Jock a stereotype with out the audience not having to look at his other elements of mise en scene represented such as costume.
Reflection on Interview
The interview I did with my friends really helped. It made me realise that our teen film opening is on the right track, as the feedback from them was mainly positive. It also gave me lots of ideas that we can use in our teen film opening. Overall, I got three main points that I will impliment into the opening.
1) Music must be used. It will make it much better and more enjoyable to watch.
2) Add some sound effects/diagetic sound. It will give it more of a comedic effect and make it more engaging.
3) Keep the scenes short and sweet. Around 2-5 seconds each, because I found that interest starts to wonder when the scene is longer then 5 seconds.
I will ensure this feedback is considered whilst editting our teen film opening.
Interview on what we have so far (2)
I showed another friend of mine, (A), what we have editted so far to see what she thinks about our teen film. Also, to see what we could change or improve to better our opening sequence. I asked the same questions as the first interview so we could have really detailed knowledge on what teens think of our teen film opening, as it is aimed for them. If they do not enjoy it or are not amused by it then something needs to be done.
Me: So, what do you think of our teen film opening so far?
A: It's really funny. I really like it!
Me: What do you like about it?
A: It's so funny. And it is kind of true aswell... like okay, obviously not everyone's actually like that but a lot of people are similar. Like, I know a lot of people just like the jock!
Me: Anything else?
A: No... it's just really good.
Me: Do you fit into any of the stereotypes shown in our teen film opening?
A: Um... No, I don't think so. I can definitley see some of the characters in me though. Like, when it was the first day of college I was just like the nerd, jumping out of bed and stuff. And I'm a little like the princess, cos she likes to look good and that from what I can see. But that's about it.
Me: So is there anything you don't like about it?
A: No, not don't like, but I do have a suggestion...
Me: Okay. What's that?
A: You should definatley add some sound effects, I think that will be so funny! Like when the nerd fell off his bike, you could add it there. Or like when the jock's driving, you should have made him drive really fast and then you can hear the wheels screeching or something.
Me: Okay. Anything else?
A: No. I think it's really good.
Thanks for taking part in my interview!

Interview on what we have so far (1)
I showed a friend of mine, (R), what we have editted so far to see what she thinks about our teen film. Also, to see what we could change or improve to better our opening sequence. I wrote down the interview because she did not wish to be filmed.
Me: So, what do you think of our teen film opening so far?
R: Yeah... it's good.
Me: What do you like about it?
R: It looks funny and I can really see the potential in it.
Me: Anything else?
R: It's relateable because they're all teenagers. And everyone can fit into one of the teenage stereotypes. Well teenagers.
Me: What stereotype do you think you're in?
R: Um... I think I would be between the princess and the nerd. And the criminal.
Me: So is there anything you don't like about it?
R: Well... are you going to add music to it? Because it would be better with music.
Me: Yes, we are planning to add music. It's just because we haven't finished it yet. Do you have any suggestions for what music we should add?
R: Um... for the theme of the movie I think it should definitley be something kind of... rock. Like, not heavy metal or anything but you know the song they have in mean girls [previous blog of the songs in Mean Girls http://titles14group21.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/research-music-sound.html]. Like a mix of rock and pop or hip'hop. Something catchy.
Me: Okay. Anything else that you dislike or think we should change?
R: Well some of the scenes are kind of long. It's not necassarily a bad thing but you said it has to be a max of 2mins30seconds and I think you could definitley save some seconds if you just cut some scenes down.
Thanks for taking part in my interview!

What I would have changed on Friday
As we were so focused on the mise-en-scene and the costumes of our 4 main characters, The Princess, The Jock, The Nerd and The Criminal, we didn't really focus on the other characters that appear only breifly in our opening sequence as they are not the main focus. I would have changed this, just to make it more clear to the audience who is who.
For example, I played the teacher and although it's made clear through the location, eg the board behind me, the concept of the whole teen film and the speech, it would have been made even clearer if I had worn some more formal clothing. Luckily, I didn't wear anything that teacher's definitley wouldn't wear, and the outfit I wore is believeable however, I would have put on something more formal eg a black jumper and a blazer etc.
This is the same for the shopkeeper, as the shopkeeper we used wore all black. This is slightly contradicting as the criminal is in all black aswell, and if the audience does not pay great attention, they may think that something completely different is going on, eg that the criminal owes the other criminal money. Looking back, I would have made the shopkeeper wear a cap or something that shows they are the shop keeper.
Teacher in blue. Although outfit is believeable, could have been much more convincing. |
Looking back on footage - Friday
Personally, I think filming on Friday was successful. We filmed the classroom scenes and all the indoor scenes. We wanted to film some outdoor scenes aswell, however we had checked the wather beforehand and we saw it was going to rain. We had hoped the weather was wrong but it was right and so much more, as it didn't stop raining for the whole day and outside looked nothing like spring. From the indoor scenes, however, we had a variety of shots to chose from. To ensure we had enough footage to fulfil the 2 minute teen sequence, we filmed a range of shots including closeups of all the characters individually and together, and many other things. I'm sure with just the scenes that we shot on Friday, we would have been able to make up the 2 minutes.
Visit Group 21's instagram page to see what we are getting up to. So far, there have been posts about filming, where we go to film and what's currently being filmed. There are also snippets and previews of our teen film opening sequence!

Filming over the half term.
Overall over the half term we filmed all of our shots that will be included in our opening sequance. As a group we are happy with the amount of shots we have, as we have a lot of them which gives us a chance to pick and choose which shots we prefer. We used a wide range of different shot distances and angles, which allows us to play around with them in the editing process. The weather was a little problem for filming but we found a way around it as we filmed the scenes inside the house when the weather was bad, and the scenes outside when the weather was sunny. Shots like the criminal scene might have to be re-shot because we werent as happy with them.
Titles that need to included
Filming on Friday. 21/02/2014
On Friday we filmed the criminals scene were we had 17 different shots.
The criminal scene wasnt as successful as the light was darker and its meant to be the morning. This was because we filmed later in the afternoon. There isnt a lot of shots as there isnt much you could record in this scene. All of the shots that were recorded for the criminals scene we have decided that we will film again as we were not happy with the quality of the shots.
