I used all key conventional aspects for such as mise en scene, camerawork, editing and sound and compared it to typical teen films that have been released in the past and found out that our teen film is similar:
Camerawork- I used a tilt angle of the shot of the nerd. Similarly, in a normal conventional teen film the nerd is always looked down upon due to the fact that he is seen as a nerd and 'geeky'. |
In comparison, This is the nerd in my teen film 'T.E.A.M'. In this shot the camera is at a tilted down angle, showing that he is looked down upon |
Mise en Scene: I used exaggerated clothes for all the characters to represent their stereotypical characters. For example, I used a bright blue baseball jacket with the letter 'F' on it. Furthermore I used a bright matching snap-back to match the baseball jacket.
Sound: Normally in a conventional teen film opening there a numerous amounts of sounds used to either represent the specific character (foley sound) or there is a suitable soundtrack that goes under the film.
Editing: in conventional teen films there are normally fine cut edits used in the opening to switch between the characters so that the audience do not get bored of watching one character simultaneously.
There are also many other conventions besides the main four which occur in the opening of a teen film such as:
- Travelling and arriving
- Titles
- Introduction of main characters
- Sets topic
- Sets genre
I have taken one of the many conventions of a teen film and I compared using the programme Timetoast. This allowed me to contrast my teen film with another teen film 'Juno' and seen if it is similar or different. The convention which I analysed was Titles.
Within the title sequence in the opening of my teen film I compared and contrasted the opening title sequence with my teen film T.E.A.M and another teen film 'Juno'. I came to a conclusion that it my Teen film was very similar to a conventional teen film in terms of the title sequence.
